Troubleshooting Your Fireplace Remote Control
Step 1. Double-check the age of your remote. If it's under 5 years old you might be covered by the manufacturer warranty, please contact the manufacturer or dealer you purchased the remote from. If over 5 years old, it likely will need replaced if the troubleshooting isn't successful.
Step 2. Make sure new or good batteries are installed properly in the transmitter and receiver. Make sure that the transmitter is within the 20’ – 25’ range of the receiver.
Step 3. As a test, slide the button switch to the “ON” position of the receiver. (The burner should ignite.)
Does light:
- If it does light, it means the fireplace is operating correctly and the issue is isolated to the remote and/or receiver
Doesn’t light:
- Check to see if the main gas supply is in “ON”.
- Is the Pilot lit?
- Pilot Valve knob in “ON” position,
- If applicable, Check and make sure rocker switch ON THE FIREPLACE is in “REMOTE” or “OFF” position,
- If burner still doesn’t light go to Step 4.
Step 4. Push the “ON” button on the transmitter (you should hear a “BEEP” coming from the receiver) and the burner should ignite.
If the burner doesn’t ignite:
- If no “BEEP” is heard, push and hold the “LEARN”* button for 10 seconds on the face of the receiver. Release when you hear 3 “BEEPS”.
- Then press and release the “LEARN” button, you should hear a “BEEP”.
- Then push the “ON” button on the transmitter within 5 seconds; you should hear several “BEEPS”.
*Note for Remotes without a "Learn" Button
If your remote control does not have a "LEARN" button, skip this step and proceed with the following:
- Ensure your remote is compatible with the fireplace model you’re troubleshooting.
- If applicable, try turning the fireplace on manually using any switches or controls directly on the fireplace.
- Check the receiver’s connections to ensure it is properly installed and receiving power.
- If the issue persists, refer to your remote's user manual for further instructions or consider contacting the manufacturer or dealer for additional troubleshooting assistance.
This troubleshooting guide does not cover all units and is generalized for common issues. Please refer to your remote/recievers manual or reach out to the manufacturer.

FAQs
Can I order a replacement battery cover?
Unfortunately we don’t have access to just the cover and therefore don’t offer them separately.
Can I replace my remote?
If your receiver has a "learn" button, you may be able to just replace the remote. However we're not able to determine if the remote isn't sending the signal, or the receiver isn't picking it up. We recommend replacing both as it's more cost effective than replacing separately and will have a fresh warranty. You can find both of those bundled HERE
If I order just the remote, will it work with my receiver?
If your receiver has a “learn” button to pair them and it’s the same model, they should pair up. However we recommend replacing both in case the receiver is near the end of its useful life as it’s more economical than replacing them individually and you’ll have new warranty coverage. How can I submit a warranty claim for my Skytech remote?
Most Skytech remotes have a 5 year warranty and they can be contacted here: Skytech Support
What is the wall plate for and do I have to use it?
Some remote kits come with an optional wall mounting plate. If your existing receiver sits near or in the access area of your fireplace, the wall plate won’t be needed. The wall plate is for installs where wires are run through the wall and the receiver gets mounted in the wall to make it more accessible.
Is the Skytech 1001 the same as the 1001-A?
Yes it is!
Can I upgrade to a remote with flame height control?
Flame height control is a function of the gas valve, not the remote. So if you don't currently have this feature then it likely cannot be added.
How do I replace the batteries in my Skytech remote or receiver?
How long do fireplace remotes last?
It depends, but the typical life of a remote system is 7-15 years.
